| Conceivably there is no creature as representative
of fantasy as the dragon. Dragons feature prominently
in many of the world’s great myths from the red
dragon of Revelations, a seven-headed beast whose
coming signals the end of the world to the many
aspects of the Chinese conscience where dragons show
up in the arts, literature, poetry, architecture, and
even song.

| In 1972, we were enchanted by
this fantastic image in a commission to create
"Dragon" an 8-foot tall salt glazed
stoneware dragon for Novelist John Gardner in
commemoration of his modern retelling of the
Beowulf epic from the point of view of the
monster, Grendel. |

| Over the years our skill as
ceramic artists has grown and the porcelain
sculpture, Tsunami pictured on this page, is a
mature version of our dragon dream image. Unlike
the villain of the 8th-century Anglo-Saxon epic
the first and most terrifying monster in English
literature, the sculpted figure is benign yet
brimful of vitality. He is brought into being by
fire frozen into cool porcelain.
