Salt Glazed Stoneware Pottery
A Salt glazed sculptural pottery form, created in 1972 in our salt kiln designed and built by us in Makanda Illinois. This form was thrown on the potters wheel.

Salt glazing is the result of salt being introduced into a kiln at very hot temperatures, resulting in sodium vapors combining with the silica in the clay. A sodium silicate glass forms on the clay surface.  This form of glazing is temperamental, beautiful and unique, glazing every surface within the kiln, thus a "Salt Kiln".
